Isadora Duncan, the “Mother of Modern Dance” sought movements that were expressive of the human spirit. “The highest intelligence in the freest body” she felt was the birthright of every child. The “Art and Technique of Isadora Duncan” (Duncan Dance) program offers to participating children, celebratory explorations of relationship: to peers, to classical music, and to the natural world. Rainbowdance Founder and Director Dicki Johnson Macy, BC-DMT, is a lineage holder in this dance heritage. The “active healing experiences” that are central to all of BCFs programs were born out of this tradition and these dance classes continue to contribute both theoretically and financially to BCF.
Duncan Dance classes offer a non-competitive environment designed to encourage healthy emotional, creative, and physical development. For the last 25 year Dicki has encouraged children trained in this technique, to remain responsive to beautiful music and to the joyful movements inspired by nature. Self-esteem, grace, reverence, reciprocity and artistry are inherent to the work. A sense of rhythm and harmony develops as children dance the reconstructed choreographies to the music of Schubert, Chopin, Brahms, Beethoven and Mozart.
Weekly Duncan Dance classes are offered at the Dance Complex (536 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA) for students aged 18 months to Adult. Specialty workshops are also offered.
