Social Empathy
The ability to adapt a social perspective is one of the most important developmental milestones of this early window. A child who has developed empathy, the understanding of how similar we are, is ready to care for others, as he would like to be cared for himself. Empathy is the skill of being able to understand the inner world of someone else. If a child sees another child fall down and start to cry, he understands that the other child is feeling hurt and sad because he has felt those feelings himself. Without this developmental skill, the child faces incredible challenges in connecting and making friends.

In Rainbowdance we read stories and fables that share these themes of friendship, honor, truth and social connection. The children witness the stories first through their ears and eyes and subsequently through their bodies, having a full experience of how working together and caring for each other can help us overcome the greatest of challenges.
